“Don’t touch anything…” Claire whispered. “We don’t know what will happen.”
“I can’t walk, or try to get out of this place without thouching anything,” Frank replied. “It’s totally dark!”
Claire stumbled and only just prevented herself from falling by grabbing something long, cold and narrow in the dark around her.
“You alright?” Frank called out. “I’ve no idea where you are.”
“Follow my voice,” Claire answered. Frank turned to his left and shuffled his feet against the floor as he moved. He felt something in front of him. “Is that you Claire?” he asked feeling rather scared it might not be her.
“It’s me,” she answered reaching out to grab his hand. “Are you sure it was a good idea to get out of the ride and try getting out of this place on foot?”
Her hand touched his stomach and he reached down to grab it. “Now don’t let go of my hand,” he told her. “Otherwise, we might be stumbling around here totally on our own.”
“What if they restart the ride while we are walking around on the tracks?” She gulped. “We could get run over.”
“We are not on the tracks,” Frank assured her. “We climbed the stairs. We are backstage you might say. I did figure there’d be light. It’s back stage after all.”
“I can’t see a bloody thing!” Claire replied. “We could be going around and around in circles.”
“Aye,” we could,” Frank agreed. “But, I’ve been trying to keep track as to where my feet are as I walk. They have remained straight no curves. So, I know we are walking in one direction not in circles.”
“But, are we still in the same room?” Claire asked. “I feel as if we’ve inched maybe a few feet.”
A big bang filled the darkness around them and Frank let out a cry of pain.
“You okay, Frank?” Claire asked as she felt him let go of her hand. No answer. “Frank!” she called out in desperation as she flung her hands out in the darkness in front of her trying to touch anything.
Frank didn’t answer. She stumbled forward and tripped over a large object on the ground in front of her which enabled her to fall upon it.
“Ugh,” she muddered as she landed on the ground. Just under her she felt a warm body. “Frank?” she called out. Her hands began to trace the body she lie upon. “Frank?”
Tears welded up in her eyes and started to fall down her face. “Frank,” she whined. “I’m scared!”
Silence was the only answer she received. “What if I just stay here?” she asked herself. “Surely, someone will find us.”
It felt as if they’d been lost for hours if not days and had gone no where. She was starting to feel confused.
At just that moment she saw an approaching light in the far distance. “Oh my God!” She whispered. “Could that be a monster coming to get us for getting off the ride when the lights went out and the ride stopped?” Images of monster faces flashed before her eyes as she remembered the ride they were on when it was working.
“Are they alive?”
The silence continued and finally seeming like out of no where a voice called out. “Is anyone here!” And it repeated itself again. “Is anyone here?”
Her heart started beating double time. “They are looking for us," she told herself and took a deep breath and shouted.
“Over here she called back!” The lights moved towards her voice and she felt relief.
