A blank verse for the contest
Dancing in the Dark
Behold, those silken tentacles she swirls
beneath the sapphire waters of Cape Cod.
She dances in the darkness with such grace,
a diva dominating center stage.
Performing solo in her own ballet,
she shows no fear of being helpless prey.
Seductive tentacles are fully armed
with cnidocytes containing filaments
that captivate and stun her audience.
Immobilized, her critics show respect.
Carnivorous, she dines on crabs and shrimp.
Anchovy eggs are extra special treats,
but minnows now and then are a delight.
Her venom-laden tentacles entice
her fans like snakes upon Medusa's head.
Extremely confident and nonchalant,
she spreads her arms and slowly pirouettes.
But swimming in the shadows by the rocks,
a great white shark is searching for his meal ~
a grand finale for this sea ballet.
