Glistening Memories
by Begin Again
The old man sat on the weathered porch, leaning back in his chair with his faithful dog at his feet. An empty rocker beside them swayed gently in the late afternoon breeze.
The dog's ears perked up as the seat creaked, and he let out a soft whimper. The old man reached down, patting his companion's head. "Yeah," he whispered, "I miss her, too."
He gazed out across the vast pasture, watching his horses gallop in the distance. In his mind's eye, he could see her again, riding wild and free — wind in her hair, laughter on her lips. His eyes filled with tears, though he made no move to brush them away.

Just then, his daughter stepped outside. She paused, concern marking her face. "Dad, what's wrong? Are you crying?" she asked gently.
He offered her a faint smile and shook his head. "Those aren't tears, child," he said, his voice soft and trembling. "They are glistening memories."
She bent and kissed the top of his head. "Mom has that effect on me, too. She'll always be here, won't she?"
He patted his hand against his chest. "Her love remains right here. And wherever we go, she goes with us."
