The Ice Man

Do you believe in poltergeists? Many people do. Poltergeists can, it is suggested, by those who say they can see them, that they can move, levitate objects, make noise and create smells. We have spent some time investigating a small restaurant in Somerset, Ohio called, ‘The Burger Joint,” who claim they have a Poltergeist. A friendly Poltergeist that is.

The story goes that an Ice man, this is an individual who use to deliver ice to homes to keep food cold. He delivered ice to whoever ordered it. However, if the delivery was made to a female he delivered hugs, and kind words as well. All the ladies in the community knew this about him and always welcomed his visits because he was always so kind to them.

One day, on one of these occasions, he delivered the ordered ice and he hugged the lady for whom he had delivered the ice and told her how nice she looked in her house dress. The woman’s husband had not yet left for work. Most of the males in the community didn’t care for him and they were often jealous about how much the ladies liked him. They all felt he was a playboy and if given the chance he’d sleep with any of the ladies. Her husband saw the hug and heard the nice words. This did it for him. No ice man was gonna take his wife from him. He took out his pistol and shot the ice man right in the middle of his head. The ice man died instantly.

The crime happened on the land where the restaurant was built. The house was torn down long ago. In the evening the lights in the front of the restaurant flicker on and off. This always spooks walkers by. In the morning, when the female manager comes in to open the restaurant, she always finds three ice cubes laying on the front table with a tiny surprise of food laid with the ice to keep it fresh.

“It just feels like he wants to tell me something,” the manager told us. “The freezer section, to my surprise, is always well taken care of. I mean, sometimes we have to just put stuff in there and go on. We figure we’re gonna have to fix it in the morning when we have more time. But, like magic when we arrive in the morning and open the freezer to organize what we threw in last night is perfectly organized in the freezer in the morning.”

Customers have often commented about things they find on their table if they get up to go to the bathroom and come back.

“The other day, a customer told us, “I decided to stop in the restaurant and get something to drink. I got up to go to the bathroom and came back to find an extra straw in my drink. I was as if someone planned to join me.”

Other times folks, males, have found their food half eaten. “I ordered a hamburger,” a male customer told us, “and got up to get my drink refilled. When I returned I found a huge bite taken out of my burger.”
