More things about keeping your creativity alive.
Sounding Board
by GWHARGIS
I told you all about the book I borrowed from my friend. It was helping with the creative drought I was having. In layman's terms, I was burning out. No matter how much I love writing or telling stories, sometimes I need to focus on the real world. I have read some parts from the book over, and tried a few things that were suggested.
Cooking and baking were suggested. I hate being in the kitchen. To me, cooking and baking translates into a filthy kitchen and that is a turn off. Gardening was suggested, but since it was December when I read the book, I had to save that for a later date. But when I got to the part about creative journaling, well, let's just say, that got me thinking.
I have a gratitude journal that I write in almost daily. And, while I do write about my stories and my paintings and collages, its mixed with family tales and pharmacy stuff.
The idea of a creativity journal is to write about your work. It's like a sounding board. I've written in it about four times since Christmas. I write about Miranda and bounce ideas around. I talk about painting and how a picture is especially challenging or my thoughts on it.
Here's the astonishing thing, it works. I love writing about my creative outlets. In my gratitude journal, I felt selfish talking about my ideas. Silly that I would think God would get aggravated hearing about a made up character, but I did.
I consider my creative journal like a silent partner. It listens and takes it all in.
You should try it.
