Surviving a day alone and doing it in style

Timeless Space

by Jesse James Doty

This was going to be the first Christmas Eve and Day I would spend alone. All three of my caregivers were taking the time off to be with family and friends.

Last year at this time, David was with me and we spent the holidays together not leaving the apartment for one minute. That was then, and this is now, and I have become a better person since David left for a place he now, calls home.

Boy, did I imagine it was going to be hard. I was not looking forward to Christmas Eve and Day all by myself. But after some adjustments, it was relatively easy.

I experienced a feeling of timeless space when it became apparent that the term, ‘qualia’ had set in. A wondrous feeling like no other, where time doesn’t matter, and you allow yourself to enjoy doing nothing at all.

I enjoyed both days immensely. I spent time on and off on the computer, doing my thing. I wrote in my journal and played with rhymes for future poetry.

Often during the day, I chose to nap, and that is a luxurious gift I hardly ever give myself. But that day, I slipped into relaxation mode, every time the spirit moved me.

I listened to rock music on my portable CD Player. I played my favorite albums such as, “Fragile” by Yes, as well as, “Imagine” and “Double Fantasy” by John Lennon.

Other times, I just enjoyed the silence of a peaceful day with no one around, and nothing to do but, chill.

Some call it mindfulness. All I know is that it filled me with heartfelt gladness for my self-realization.

I have become stronger and more confident since spending this day and a half alone.

From now on, I will celebrate my time alone, knowing I will thoroughly enjoy it. Timeless space is where I choose to be whenever I am alone.

This was an empowering experience like no other.
I am glad to know the feeling of being alone.
