Back when the west was really wild,
Calvin Short was just a child.
He grew up a mountain man,
Part of a beaver hunting clan.
Lived in the mountains all his life,
Took an Indian squaw for his wife.
Wife died early giving birth,
He raised three children and proved his worth.
Read the Bible whenever he could,
Tried to live a life he should.
A happy ending you won't find any,
Better men, there ain't been many.
Mountain living took his life,
Children buried him next to his wife.
That's a short biography of a man,
Who lived his life with a mountain clan.
Few people even knew his name,
He entered the world quietly and left the same.
