Worm in the Brain by HarryT Fortean Phenomena contest entry |
A well-known politician reported experiencing strange symptoms—headaches, dizziness, and a sensation of something squirming inside his head. When he told others about the sensation, they dismissed it as stress, a too common ailment when one is seeking an office as high and important as the presidency of the United States.
One evening, as Junior was studying poll results, his brain felt as if it was being strangled. A sharp pain shot through his head, his vision blurred, a burning sensation rose in his throat and then he regurgitated on his desktop. He called his doctor, Dr. Fox, who promptly scheduled an MRI scan. The results were shocking. There, to both men’s disbelief residing deep within Junior’s brain, was a small, wriggling worm. The sight of it sent chills down both men’s spines. How could this have happened? Junior had always been meticulous about hygiene and health. Often railing against processed food and vaccinations.
Dr. Fox, called in Dr. Sarah Wolf, an expert in parasitology. She examined the scans and confirmed Junior’s worst fears. “It’s a parasitic worm, likely contracted from contaminated food or water,” she explained. “We need to remove it immediately.”
The surgery was delicate and risky. Junior lay on the operating table, his mind racing with thoughts of his career. He trusted Dr. Wolf, but the fear of the unknown gnawed at him. As the anesthesia took hold, he whispered, "Oh, please sweet, Jesus, take this worm from me."
Hours later, Junior awoke in the recovery room. Dr. Wolf stood by his side, her expression a mix of relief and concern. “We got it,” she said, holding up a small vial containing the worm. “But it was close. Another few days, and it could have caused irreversible damage.”
However, some questions: Was the worm female? Was she looking for a nest? Did she lay eggs?
Only the future will tell if Dr. Wolf was correct, and there was no permanent damage. However, it may be hard to tell based on Junior's behavior.
