Off On A Tangent! by Sankey |
We are diverting from the Metro stories for a short time.
Many of you have followed my "Rambles" on all sorts of subjects.
We have covered all sorts of things from dietary changes to transport changes.
At this juncture, I am referring back to my skin cancer dramas.
In the photos you can see, firstly, me with our Grt Nephew Max. You will notice the slight evidence on the left side of my head, the healed up graft that was done when that skin cancer was operated on. I only wish things were still the same.
Alas, a year or so, after this lovely work was done, I had a fall on a driverless Metro, hitting my head, heavily on the Metro floor, exactly on this graft location. You can see the mess resulting in the second picture.
Actually, this is a lot worse than initially, as things have declined.
When the skin cancer was treated, I also had eleven radiation treatments, ensuring the cancer would not return. The thing about radiation treatments is they not only kill the cancer, but they also kill the nerves in the area. This prevents any healing, for example, of the injury I later received from that fall.
My plastic surgeon gave up on any idea of restoring this big mess to some normality. I guess his reason was, it was no longer cancer-related. Just an accident result.
Fortunately, due to our former GP retiring, we came upon a couple of new doctors who have, subsequently, picked up on myriads of missed areas of medical treatment our old doctor had overlooked. Some, for years!
One of these, while not a skin specialist as such, is very forward-thinking and proficient in matters of the skin.
In days to come and with the advent of "artificial skin" I am hoping Dr Russell can make some progress, gradually, to clear this awful abhorrent blemish on my head.
