I still remember   laughing uncontrollably— at the sunny shore   playful waves pushed us     under three feet of water— funny way to die   we secretly ate   sweet cakes inside our closet— left crumbs of childhood   I left at fifteen   to cross the atlantic sea— with a bag of dreams   today I heard    she died in our mother land— our lives cut in half   Recognized Author Notes I was born in Spain. My sister and I were very close when we were young. After my mother died, my dad was remarried to a horrible woman that made him choose between her or us, he chose her. At 15 years, and her at 25 years, we were homeless and without a job. My mother sisters offered to care for us. I moved with them in America and my sister chose to stay in Spain. I was able to visit her a few times but we lost touch. I regret I didn't call her more. She died today. I poured my feelings on this poem. I hope you like it. Thank you, SENRYU is a Japanese short unrhymed poem that uses imagistic language to express the essence of a deeply felt moment in time. Unlike Haiku, senryu is about human nature and doesn't need a season word. It's written in 17 syllables OR LESS and three lines.
