Today you left and went ahead
to that fairway in the sky.
Your eyes are sharp, your legs are firm,
you make the golf balls fly.
Memories of old tournaments
come rushing back with zest.
You greet your golfing troops again;
your treasured friends, the very best.
Chasing the ball from hole to hole,
you walk the course with glee.
You remember the thrill of eagles,
the friendly camaraderie.
The sun is warm upon your face,
your eyes smile as you look up.
You hit the ball, it flies so far
and rolls straight in the cup.
"A hole in one" you shout aloud
and gaily stride along,
free from pain, from worry too;
your steps are sure and strong.
The clouds move apart, you wave
and call to those of us still here --
"I'll wait for you on the 18th hole,
a shared hug when you appear.
We'll reunite in bonds of love,
our family circle will be a crowd.
But until then I'll walk and golf
on the fairway in the clouds."
