What a great addition to your tail. It is amazing what the power of prayer can do. God is good and always has our backs. He may not necessarily give us what we want, but he always givers us what he needs.

I can remember my dad saying "You know boy, if you don't speak up, you don't eat." I guess it sort of made sense. And I'm sure the best to get the Good Lord's attention is simply just ask. :-) Thanks for sharing.

The Wheat farmers especially if it did hail then the crops would suffer. (wheat)
. As a boy when my Poppa was alive, we had a bad (poppa because of 'my')
Paul, said. "Dad, with mother's prayers, God always answers."
As I walked out the door, I responded, 'Yes, sure seems that way." (space needed between these two dialogues.)

This was a nice short story. It gave enough information for the reader to understand the impact of each pending doom on the town. The wording used also gave the feel of a small town in the south, and further immersed me into the story. Apart from a few grammatical errors, I enjoyed this story.

On the surface it seems like a brief chapter, but after reading it, I can tell it is setting up the scene for something deeper, like that gang turning their way and our boy having to deal with it. Prayer answered the first problem. Perhaps he should've confided in his wife. If she prayed the gang wouldn't stop in their town, maybe they wouldn't. I guess lying to the wife never ends well.
