I loved your poem. It was on such a poignant topic. Do you have that hourglass or did you just make it up? You did a great job because it made me feel it was a real experience. Have a wonderful day. Shirley

Thanks, Shirley. The vet with the packets of sand was real. The rest was inspiration.

We should do this for all of the soldiers who lost their lives in any war. They need to be remembered, always. What a wonderfully written poem.
Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day, and God bless.

I think,I am not sure I have read this poem.I liked it very much . The sand that was given was put in an hour glass.
That was great on your part. .And it has a deep significance for you .

This poem is a moving story. Storing the sand in a hour glass is a smart move. Putting the hour glass on a writing desk is a perfect way to remember the Normandy shores and the heroes.
The following paragraph is touching... "Then he placed in my hand that packet of sand, And said when his tears were through, "My time on this earth is almost up, So I'm giving this sand to you."
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the review. Seeing the return of those veterans at the end of that Honor Flight was one of the most emotional experiences that I have ever had.

This is beautiful in my eyes, Paul. Be forewarned, I'm not a rhyming poet. I prefer the free flowing world of free verse.
I loved the history here, the brave ones we should never forget who died on the beaches of Normandy. We must hold on to our true history and not forget, as the sands of time passes.
Sending you my best today for this marvelous post,
Sal :))

Beautifully written tribute to the greatest generation. It touched me personally as my dad was a WWII pilot who lost friends in Normandy. He had some amazing war stories that I wish I had recorded.

What a heartwarming poem and reminder of all those who gave up their lives that day! Love the sand in the hourglass and the part where the beaches were washed of the blood and gore. So grateful for all who fought there. A big thank you for what you did and for sharing it here for all to enjoy.

This is definitely a memorable poem and I enjoyed every word of it. It tells a fascinating story and the meter is beautiful. The rhymes are also excellent and creative and artfully used so that they, in no way, distract from your touching story. I loved reading this and was pleased to learn it is based on a true experience. Good luck in the contest Paul. I know this will do well. MM

This is poetry at its best. the rythym and rhyme scheme are perfect, the poem has a narrative that is touching and yet truly inspiring. I sincerely hope you continue to write You have a shining gift, don't let it go to waste. This poem would make the likes of Wilfred Owen proud to own its authorship. cheers Cass Carlton
