What a beautiful story! I loved your description of the deer, but the way you portrayed Blackie was extremely funny. It put a smile on my face. You described cats perfectly with his yawning and feigning disinterest.
I love to watch the deer in our backyard. I wish I had your experience, but with your excellent description, I feel that I have.
I have to tell you what happened here. One day in November, we found our dog chewing on what ended up being a deer hoof. He is a very docile outside dog, but he wouldn't give up that hoof. A week later, we found a deer carcass, only bones, on the side of our house. How did we miss that and how did that deer get into the fenced section of our yard? My daughter and I decided it had to be Goldie, our cat. We don't know how she did it, but she had to have lured that deer into our yard or somehow drug it in.
Anyway, your story is wonderful and very descriptive and funny as well. Thanks.

Thank you. Your story sounds like an interesting one too. It does make you wonder how a cat could get a deer into the yard.

Our neighborhood is on the edge of town and we have numerous deer come into our yard all hours of the day and night. They are almost tame. I will have to say, we also have two cat, that cats are very interesting characters on their own. LOL I enjoyed reading your contest entry. It made me smile. Good luck with the contest

Thank you. All cats are unique and Blackie is no exception. He loves to pick on the other cats and my dog. He is like a kid that is just a natural instigator.

This was a well-written contest entry. I think you completed the challenge of this contest well. I have to agree with blackie the deer should not be in his yard. I live in an area that has deer. While they are beautiful and I often watch them in the creek and watch the fawns grow up I do not want them in my garden or orchard. Besides I am not doing them any favors having them trust me because when hunting season opens people are not their friends.

Thank you. I agree with you in that we should not make friends with the deer. some folks feed them year round just so they can shoot them later.

That was one of the cutest cat stories ever! I can just picture Blackie watching the deer and laughing to himself until he finally had the right chance to pounce. I would love to have seen it, but I almost feel as though I did!
Great job and good luck in the contest,
Rhonda

Thank you. It was funny to watch. Our cats are all comics and do the funniest things. I will have to write about the kittens, the dog, and the gopher one day soon. Now that was hilarious.

I'm still laughing. Those deer had no idea of what they were dealing with. A typical cat and Blackie got the last laugh. Great job. Mary

Excellent story. You really brought out the characteristics and personalities of the animals. I could easily envision the cat laying still, waiting for its prey and the deer hesitating, then jumping and running for all they were worth.
Living in the country myself, I see a lot of deer and your right, they are beautiful creatures.
Thank you for sharing this story. I laughed when I pictured the cat playing a practical joke on some twitchy deer.

Thanks, Angie. Yes, I got a 90 out of 100 on my first story. Their comments are so helpful and I can see some areas where I can improve now. Des had his colonoscopy and they found a tumor in his colon. The biopsy showed it to be benign, thank God. Des is feeling much better after getting 3 liters of blood. He is going to see the doctor Thursday and find out what's next. Have you posted anything new lately? LOVE YA, auntie

Thank you. Sounds like your father really lives out in the sticks. We have a lot of space to ourselves here too.
