Super post! You've hit a nerve for me. I'm a huge advocate of responsible fishing limits and safe zones for fish. If we don't fight for that, there will be no fish to eat in 40 years, and no fish to see off of your and other coastlines.
By the way, I detest the way Japan slaughters fish population. Don't know as much about Norway but I can imagine!
Cheers,
DW

Bless you DW! I don't let myself think about man's idiocies for too long - I find it too infuriating, then depressing. "Man" is a fool - and not a Shakespearean one.
Bless you for your lovely six on this one!

Wow, what a sight. Has a whale ever came up and tipped over a boat? That might be my biggest concern. There is no real way to deny the awesome creativity of God. Very educational piece. I would love to experience such a moment as making eye contact with one of these whales. God love you and so do I.

Never, Evelyn - though a few years ago a huge tail descended upon a tourist boat and someone actually got killed! the fault? boat too close to the whale! :)S

This is very informative - I did not know a lot of this stuff. Whales are cool animals, and have faced a big brunt of human interest in their blubber.

Great, informative writing. loved it. I have some editing suggestions for you. Take what you like, okay?
During the winter, when they're in (the) warm tropical waters of Hawaii, they fast and live off
the tourists, dressed gaily in light-hearted colors and sun-hats(,) wait expectantly. (parenthetical closing comma)
The newborn is born underwater (remove , ) and instinctively swims to the surface within ten
These creatures need to be defended.
We need to defend these creatures. (this passive you can be eliminate)
Sight-seers (Sightseers) (compound word)

Hi Sharyn,
This is a beautifully penned. It is the information that I loved. I felt closer to those magnificent creatures. I can so easily see the mind altering moment of awe they give us.

I've often thought that Hawaii was damn lucky the day Sharyn landed there! And again, I'm thinking this.
I lived at the Pacific coast of British Columbia for many years, just living so close to the ocean and having contact with it and it's life every day gives a body a sense of responsibility.
Creatures like the whale due in part to their immense size remind us to look beyond our own noses, our own needs.
Such a beautifully written piece, not a bubble or blip of spag that I saw. Apparently I'm not allowed to give you a sixer yet. Pity, this write is worth the whole shebang.
I enjoyed it.

oh lovely! thx so much Patti! (and I think Hawaii's lucky to have me too - though that opinion is not necessarily the opinion of our local government!) :))))

You make even plain-and-simple-fact-tellin' such a readable read, Sharyn!
How you do this, I'm not sure, but you do!!
This reads like something from a children's encyclopedia - a fun encyclopedia!
All the very best in the contest. This one deserves to win.

I was lucky enough to have good encyclopedias as a kid - there needs to be SOMETHING relatable in there to make the imparting of facts relatively painless, yes? Bless you dear! :)S

This was not just an excellent read, but hugely informative as well. You are so lucky to have these magnificent animals on your doorstep when they come to mate. As always, this was a pleasure to read and review.
