Enjoy your hike LisaMay. Looking forward to your posts when you return.
I agree that New Zealand is a beautiful country. The scenery in LOR was stunning.
As always you write with confidence and style and with enough personal detail to draw the reader in. I know about those biting midges. But you're well prepared for the onslaught.
Adding the legend was a wonderful touch.
Thanks for sharing
Stay safe and blessed

I'm back from the hiking now, and what a surprise that I only have 2 bites from the sandflies. Scenery stunning, weather wonderful... will tell more in a story later.

I can feel that you're revitalized by your hike. Thanks for the congrats. March 1st is St David's Day, the patron saint of Wales, ( John's birthplace) and it's Shrove Tuesday. Hope you've eaten your pancakes!

Visitors who are all lathered and greased up.
Good start. I want to read about the hiking itself, being a hiker 'and' a Tolkien fan.
Good writing. Nice work.
So waterproof spray and insect repellant, that's it?
Best wishes.

It sounds like you will be well prepared for this trip Lisa and it sounds like you will be seeing some breathtaking scenery and enjoying some fresh clean air. My Aunt and Uncle toured New Zealand and didn't stop talking about it for years afterwards. I doubt I will ever see the place in my lifetime so hearing your stories are most welcome, good luck on your trip, love Dolly x

Your trip sounds so wonderful and such an adventure. The picture certainly shows how beautiful the country is.
Have a good trip.
Maybe the "curse" was not so bad after all!
Best wishes,
Mary

LisaMay,
This is such a wonderful presentation: photo, prose, and first person voice. I don't know exactly where to begin my review.
I felt envy that you get to visit such a beautiful place; but I do not envy the sandflies. When I was in basic training in South Carolina, I had enough of those pests! Lol. But I know I'm missing the point.
Your presentation is very informative; you paint a beautiful portrait of your country that is so rich in its history. I'm sure many readers will learn of New Zealand's "hidden" beauty.
Excellent chapter.
Good luck with your excursion! and your writing.
Blessings and best wishes,
Cindy

I've heard of those wretched sandflies, when my brother Trevor and I made a motoring holiday in the UK, while on the isle of Skye, we had a most inconvenient puncture in the middle of nowhere, it was a beautifully warm windless day, I started to change the wheel, but then we were attacked by "midges", they were shocking, they might have matched the sabdflies in New Zealand, have a great walk Jenny, blessings Roy

LisaMay,
Ouch. Yep. I'm pretty sure it's *jealousy* I'm feeling. But that trip sounds absolutely amazing! The landscape you've described is crazy amazing and a place that I've never even heard of. Wow. PLEASE bring back lots of pictures??? Take care of yourself! And know that we'll miss you!

You go on such wonderful adventures I hope someday I can do the same. I cannot wait to hear about how your trip goes. Good luck and be careful out there.
I loved learning of the myth and backstory as well.

so cool Lisa. Your trip sounds wonderful. I've done the 36 excersion into the Cascades in Canada and this sounds so similar except we had about 6 ft of snow to contend with and fleas instead of sandflies. Who would think fleas like snow?
anyways, have a good time!
