There's a lot of interesting speculation here. I'm glad I'm not smart enough to understand all of this and worry about it. Your character is believable and interesting.

An interesting perspective on the end time for earth. In reality another planet has been discoved in our solar syste, Pluto used to be considered the ninth plent until astromers decided it was too small to be called a planet. Now thei new planet is called the ninth p,anet. So far ithas not been seen wuth a noemal light telescope and it's orbit is onlly speculated. Could this planet be drawn into a collision with earth? Who would know if it did?

I'm impressed with this story. In less than 700 words you painted a very vivid picture and left this reader sorrowful for the end and wanting the story to continue. Well written. Thank you for sharing.

Well, well, well. This was a fabulously well-crafted and well-presented story. I thought you handled the entire story with great skill - loved the flashback in the middle. That added quite a bit to the character and his credibility. I hoped the ending MIGHT be something different - optimistic that I am...but it was totally appropriate. Good luck in this contest!
