I hope we learn of why Thrasher was fired. And why a 14 year old was put in charge. I like Rosalind. She protects her own. It is 27% here overcast, with no snow. Karen

It seems that young Nicholas is a big hit with both the enigmatic Constantine and the rosebush-guardian Rosalind.
I thought I would be able to get through all of your chapters before the end of Saturday night, but it's almost upon me, and I haven't even used half of your generous promotions. I think you used the Book Balloon? That was a really great idea. I wish I had seen it earlier in the week, but it's been a busy week for me, and a hard one, besides.
I am enjoying your lighthearted story!

So glad you're enjoying -- hope you saw that it didn't expire til THIS Saturday... ;) :) I'm so far behind, but I'm catching up -- SO VERY HAPPY to have you along! ;) Yvette

Yes, I finally did see which Saturday it was (tomorrow), and now I'm all caught up and looking forward to your next chapter! God bless you.

A sentient climbing rosebush ... I have never read a story where 'the plants' are actually characters in the story and push the plot forward. I think I will enjoy reading this.

Oh, the crazy blonde can certainly dream some stuff up, yeah? ;) :) Thanx for hanging in (or maybe Rosalind held you here...)! :) Yvette

So now the mystery of the light source. This coming together nicely in that it is whimsical, believable and your charters have , well, you know: character! As this is slanted for pre-teens, I'm wondering if there is a hidden message somewhere. I hope so. This is not, in agreement with C.D. Meyer (movie producer) who was once asked by a writer if he would back a movie with a message. Meyer shot back, movies are for entertainment. Messages are for Western Union. Loren

Guess we'll have to see -- do want it to be focused and fun but also with :"responsibility" the big take away...? ;) :) Thanx for the food for thought... you have no idea how hard it is to get younger ones interested in even reading a book these days... technology of video/video games/etc is a BIIIIG draw away from the printed page... ugh. Take care! ;) Yvette

Yvette,
I was going through to check if I had read each of your chapters, and was surprised to find that I hadn't. I'm gonna keep going to see if there are anymore I missed.
This chapter was a lot of fun. I really, really love your style of writing - you have a rare talent for bringing the story to vivid, 3D life.
I also LOVED some of these active and vibrant word choices: snuffle, sputtering, clambored. These kinds of verbs/descriptors help the reader SEE the story in a unique and lively way that ordinary verbiage cannot match. *smile*
The descriptions of each of these characters movements and expressions - other than facial and simple, predictable ones - like the exaggerated hands on hips and then the reply of the hands on hips - with appropriately dramatic flourish was also fun.
Only one tiny note:
--> "(')Bout time!" He pinned me with one of his piercing glares
I enjoyed - now on to the rest!

This chapter consolidates the relationship between Nicolas and elements of the garden he is to take care of. In particular we gain confirmation that Rosa has unusual capacities for a rambling rose bush, and it looks as though the garden shed itself is alive.

I have been crazy busy with re-doing stuff: lesson plans and such and preparing to video lectures/set up online discussion groups amid the weeks of school closing we are faced with...ugh. :) But, it's gonna be an interesting adventure.... see? I'm saying it so it'll be just like that.... right?! ;) :) LOL!
Thanx again, Gypsy! ;) Yvette

You're welcome, Yvette. I feel for you. It's always a challenge to be a teacher but now is coo coo pants crazy challenge.

As I travel down the path of this story, I am drawn into both the garden and the tale surrounding it more and more. I really am enjoying this wonderful tale.

Yvette,
A-ha! the mystery deepens and Nicholas is drawn even deeper into this magical world you have created which seems to approve of his "light-hearted" personality.
On to Chap 3...

So glad you're getting caught up and will be ready for next month's chapter... during the school year, I set a 'reasonable' goal of a chapter per month - it'll be such fun with you following! :) :) Have a wonderful week! Yvette

Cute story that continues to hold my attention. It sounds as though the new groundskeeper is someone the gnomes are happy to have. He is doing well with his new job.
