Well written and well told.
This is a pleasant surprise. The story is clear. The setting well laid out.
Well done and I look forward to much more.

Thanx so much for taking the time to 'wade in' -- it's quite the garden! ;) Yvette
Comment from Melonie Kirchoff
This chapter is even better than the previous. The conversation flows really well and it's a very easy read, something that kids would like. I love the fourteen year old humor in it as well. Great job!

You should pop over to my portfolio and read the first few chapters of my young adult story when you get a chance. I feel like you'd like it.

Marvelous chapter. Already the magic begins.
I love the contrast between brash Nicholas and the gnome who will no doubt turn out to be his mentor.
I enjoy prowling around hidden places in parks and gardens so this is right up my street.

Oh, you and me both!! ;) Like some sort of Indiana Jones in the parks and older deserted buildings back in my old home town!! ;) Thanx for your review -- glad your enjoying! ;) :) Yvette

No sixes left....love the development of this. It's easy to tell that Nicholas is in for a lot of adventures. That would be Nirvana for a kid his age...and a kid-at-heart at my age, as well! LOL

Came back to remind myself of this neat story that I will share with my grandchildren soon.
This introduction of the other cast members, so far, brings me up to speed on this fascinating and charming tale of Nicholas's new job as the groundskeeper.

I don't know how you are keeping all of these stories straight. I like the possibilities that I see in this one. I cannot imagine how you are going to proceed, but the story line is definitely intriguing thus far. I like the disappearing door and talking gnome. I can't wait to see how you develop and end this story.

Yeah, I'm just a crazy person, I guess -- glad you are enjoying this one.... it's one of two of my 'once a month only' books that are challenging for different reasons: this one for the length and the other because I'm giving romance a try on here. :) :) Thanx for the review, Beautiful B'ham Bud -- so glad you seem to be 'catching up' down there! ;) :) Take care! ;) Yvette

I think G - Trash was not well-liked by the flora that was a part of his guardianship. Nicholas was luck the gnome came to his rescue. Now it is his task to come to the realization that caring for a garden is more than just providing water. Good job.

Oh this is going to be so much fun! I guess the rose bush is alive? And that the gnome is a great character. Apparently, the previous groundskeeper was not favored. Hopefully, they will like young Nicholas!

Yvette,
Nice, quick chapter that gets to the point and keeps the reader's interest. I always love your tiny bits of mystical moments tossed in as surprises. They're so much fun! Thanks!

I think I'm going to like this story.
Just one suggestion and one spag:
We stood in front of the garden shed to which Sir Phillipe was handing me the key - I might have said 'We stood in front of the garden shed, the key to which Sir Phillipe was handing me.'
"Previous Groundskeepers have left notes in the shed's small cabinet inside, perhaps they will help you." - period after 'inside'
Cheers
