Well Debi, that was quite a poem. To be honest you have written better poems than this. But as for a story maybe it's best ever! L O L I noticed that you saved Georgia for your epilogue! The truth is I lived in Michigan for a total of 34 years and I resemble those remarks! Great job sis

hahahaha. You are right.. I have written better poems than that since it was a story. You nut, you!! Thanks for the fun review of it. I know living close as Michigan was weather much like ours. We just get picked on so I thought why not make fun of us too. Thanks and speaking of Michigan, drive careful tomorrow. Merry Christmas too my dear brother. Thank you. This was very nice.
I loved 'Prairie Home Companion' (Garrison Keilor) Where all the kids are above average.
I especially liked your Author's Notes!

Hi Wayne, I love Garrison Keillor and hated when he left the program. It is like when we no longer had Paul Harvey. And now for the rest of the story. Gosh, I loved those words. Anyway, thank you so much.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, my dear friend. And good day! LOL

Well, I'm disappointed in myself for not reading and reviewing this fine post for three days (I don't know how I missed it), but on the other hand this is review #26 which makes it an All Time Best! Yea me for you!!!

I believe the Vikings are actually 12-2...

I enjoyed all the interesting tid bits regarding you Minnesota-ians. Well except for losing #4 to you guys.

Great post sis as usual!

Love ya,
John

Great artwork and story to go with it, Debi. You have a great talent for taking basic information and making it interesting and funny, too. I didn't know Minnesota had so many famous people. I like the part when you talk about Lonnie Anderson and your FanStory friend's stepdad dating her. Charles Schultz is my favorite cartoonist so I chuckled at the round heads.

I would never eat Spam. I can't imagine living in an enclosed skyway system. That must be really weird. I bet they are allergic to fresh air!. The part about the mosquito is funny, too.

You also did a great job with the notes. I read them all, and they're pretty good, too! An enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing it all.

Hi Debi,
I enjoyed your fun post about Minnesota. This really could be the Vikings' year to win the Super Bowl. Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the Vikings have never won the Super Bowl.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the 1996 movie, "Fargo", the reality-based crime drama set in Minnesota in 1987. Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) is a car salesman in Minneapolis who has gotten himself into debt. He's so desperate for money that he hires two thugs (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare) to kidnap his own wife! Enter a savvy (pregnant) police chief (Frances McDormand). It's a movie about blizzards and blood! Good movie!
My favorite bit about the state...
"The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was set in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was Mary's first real acting job since leaving the "Dick van Dyke Show." The show about a single woman's struggle to find happiness in the big city was originally titled "Life Without Dick," but that was changed for some reason. Hmmm??" ... funny stuff!
I also liked this tidbit...
"Minnesota got it's name from the Sioux Indian word "mah-nee-soo-tah," They say its true meaning is, "No, really... They eat fish soaked in lye."
Nicely penned, Deb!
Hugs,
Kimbob

LOL, Kimbob, like I said in the beginning, some of this was from a post I read on FB but most of it was mine. I am all too aware of when the Vikings last went to the Super Bowl so wouldn't that be awesome if this was their year?
Of course you maybe have another one in mine. Just please don't say Green Bay or Detroit. Hahaha.

To tell you the truth I hated the movie, Fargo. Absolutely hated it. They did the you betcha language and I am a bit of all the Scandinavians, but mostly Finnish. Did you like that movie? It was so gory. Anyway, I do love that you brought it up so I can say, isn't Fargo more in ND? Haha.
Thanks again, my dear friend for the awesome review and fun,, fun, fun comments. You are the best!! Love, Debi

Good Morning, Debi! Yes, I did enjoy the movie. It was so real. Bill Macy and Frances McDormand were ideal picks to star in the film. And those two bad guys, played by Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare, fit the roles so well. I can still picture Peter pushing what was left of Steve's leg into that wood chipper. And all the while, Frances was sneaking up on him, putting herself into a very dangerous situation. And her, pregnant! Spectacular movie! How could you not like it? LOL. Gory? Yes. But the whole plan gone so wrong. Drama at its finest!
You have a nice day, my dear.
    Hugs,
    Kimbob

Well, my husband is supposed to be 4% Viking. I can believe it, because he actually likes Spam and eggs! I'm part Polynesian. So I do make Spam fried rice. However, neither of us has been to the great state of Minnesota. Thank you for your tips. Will keep them in mind in case we feel the urge to visit. But I don't like the idea of mosquitos that can carry off kittens...

Hi Debi,
thanks for the entertaining and informative post. I think the politics of the state would keep me where I am, but I sure would like to do some fishing there. My neighbors have family in Minnesota and they visited this past summer. I was afraid I was going to lose them, but they opted to stay here-yay!
I don't mind a certain amount of cold, but I get tired of it after awhile. It's warmer here than up in the interior, but not as warm as in southeast where we lived for forty plus years.
Sounds like there were a lot of famous folks from there. The only famous Alaskan that comes to mind, aside from skiers or dog mushers, is the singer Jewel. I think she grew up in Homer.
Well done gal. Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Hey there, Tom! I didn't expect to see you back as I didn't want you to feel obligated and what do you do, you bring a six star back with you. I am so touched beyond words. I cannot thank you enough. That means so much to me. And I know what I describe about our northern woods is nothing compared to your beauty.

We want to go to Alaska so badly, but he's worried about the long trip for me. But we have been everywhere else in the US besides Hawaii and Alaska so we have both gotten our passports to go.

Thanks again, my awesome friend and I will get your way one of these days if I ever get caught up. Love, Debi

    Hi Debi,
you don't need a passport to come to Alaska gal, unless you drive through Canada. If you ever decide to make the trip up, give me an advanced notice. I could give you pointers depending on what you want to do and see. If you want to see whales and go fishing, Southeast is where you want to visit. If you want to drive up to Denali, Fairbanks, North Pole, Anchorage, Valdez, Homer or Seward, you should probably fly in to Anchorage and rent a car. Southeast is beautiful because of the mountains and water, but the rest of the area is pretty awesome too.

I really enjoyed reading this as I am from Minnesota as well. Here's another fun fact for you, Lonnie Anderson grew up in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and my stepdad dated her in high school.
The 1980 Olympic hockey team trained in Minnesota and I met several of them because they lived in the apartment complex in Burnsville where I lived before they left to win the gold. And my sister and I baked them some oatmeal cookies full of brown sugar and sent them on their way.
My stepsister helped choreograph some of Prince's dance routines for his movie purple rain, and graffiti Bridge.
And one more thing. My birthday is the same day... Different years of course that Minnesota became a state.
Your writing was very informative and entertaining. Happy Monday.

Hi Lana, good to see you again. Would you allow me to add some of your fun information to my story? It still have two and a half days of promotion.
I know parts of it are highly exaggerated, but I think our audience is smart enough to know the difference. So I think they would love that one of our own has ties with some famous people from there.
I will wait for your reply. I think I will also add all of the people from FS that live here.
reply by Lana Marie on 16-Dec-2024
Yes you can add whatever you'd like. Yes it's funny that I enjoyed the writings because I understood all your humor because of being a Minnesota. I can't remember what part of Minnesota you're in. I'm up by Andover in coon Rapids

I just got done adding the part about Lonnie Anderson and the fact that your step-father dated her in high school. I could have put other personal stuff in there but I kept most of it out. But you are in there a little bit.

I actually had two of the same thing in there. I didn't think one saved tho, thank you for telling me. I erased it. This is what is in one paragraph: I was given a little information that I once knew, but I forgot about. Lana Marie, another FanStory Minnesota member reminded me that Lonnie Anderson was from St Paul. But she truly sweetened the pot when she told me that her stepdad dated her in high school.

As a person who spent nearly 2 years visiting Minnesota off and on, I can attest to many of your statements. It was actually 20 months, and I can truly say that I mostly enjoyed myself when there. I spent almost all if my time there in Minneapolis. I was unofficially engaged to a young teenage girl who fantasized about getting away to accompany me to my home in Detroit. I was 21, she was 16. There was no way I was going to marry someone so young and inexperienced. Besides, I did not love or even like her enough to marry her or anyone else at that point in my life. I digress. I totally enjoyed your fun write about a place I visited and truly liked.

This is the delightful story you have written and shared with us. I enjoyed very much listening to it. Especially enjoyed your facts about the weather in your notes. In Arizona when it gets to be 45° the people are all bundled up with a heavy jacket, a stocking cap, gloves, and earmuffs. While people in Minnesota are probably getting ready to go out to the lake for a short swim. Patricia.
