Ciao Sugarray,

I think we all have a garment that we cherish above the rest.

I love all the examples you cite that made that particular robe special.

I have a special hoodie that I have owned for nearly 10 years. The cuffs are starting to frail and they are twice as big now even after it has been washed. And yet I feel so snug in it.

I use it in the garden ever Autumn and when I cuddle up with my furry "boys".

I wear it in Winter when I am taking care of the woodfire throughout the day.

It has a military pattern and I love it.

My mamma had a knitted robe she made that she cherished and wore in the colder months when she was doing her art in her studio.

She only had a small heater there so she kept her knitted robe on under a cotton white lab/coat to keep warm.

If I close my eyes I can still see her in it.

Oh, thank you so very much, Franca. I'm glad you could identify with this Robe. I secretly have an old sweatshirt that I've worn for years that is stained and frayed, but I love it! Thank you again... Ciao!!

This poem, The Robe, presented with four ABCB-rhymed quatrains, honors the garment that has held grandchildren and been the armed blanket for many sleeping souls.

Melissa,

This is a wonderful poem. To have so memories tied up in a robe is insane. I can relate I have an old and tattered housecoat. I often wonder why I don't throw it away. Your poem nailed the reason.

Great job my friend

Cecilia

A-h-h this poem is simply beautiful, evocative and wistful with a title that invites the reader to explore significant life events through 'The Robe.' It brought a smile to my face on this chilly winter's day.

What a precious robe that is full of memories. It reminds me of people's tattered couches. This is my first time to read a poem about a tattered robe that is full of memorable moments.

Well done.

Very nicely done, Melissa. A article be it clothing or something else filled with fine memories is always a treasure even though it might be frayed around the edges a bit.

Always a pleasure to read your finely rhymed and metred work. :)

-Nice artwork and presentation, Melissa.
-You wrote a good poem with
effective imagery and rhyme.
-A very good opening verse
sets the scene and peaceful mood.
-Good transition to your memories
as you remember your children and
their young lives and growing up.
-The "tiny rips" represent what
happened, but also how you cared
for each of them sharing words of comfort.
-A very good concluding verse with
a lovely image of "feathered snowflakes"
and how you would never trade this robe.
-Very well done. I enjoyed reading it.

Hello, Melissa!
There is something so comforting about wearing a robe that shares the memories of which you write. I own a number of clothing articles are filled with such memories. I also own a beautiful crepe blouse - pale pink - that belonged to my mother but was going to be discarded by "those in charge" until I rescued it. Doesn't fit me; never will. But I simply couldn't bear to see it be given away to strangers as my mother treasured it so.

Thank you for sharing!
fondly,
diane
